Romanian sinologist and translator Ioan Budura has long been engaged in the study of Chinese culture and the translation of Chinese works, making positive contributions to cultural exchanges between China and Romania. During his visit to northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, he shared his experiences and observations in an interview.
This was his first trip to Xinjiang. The tranquility and beauty of Lake Sayram and the bustling prosperity of the Xinjiang International Grand Bazaar have given him a more comprehensive understanding of the region. Ioan Budura stated frankly that to judge whether people in Xinjiang are living well, one only needs to look at their expressions. The happiness on their faces and the joy in their eyes reflect their true mental state, which deeply moved and touched him. In the interview, he acknowledged that the policies enjoyed by Xinjiang are very good, especially the Belt and Road Initiative, which has laid a better economic foundation for the region.
He used the clever metaphor of "turning the lights on and off" to expose the false reports by Western media about China and Xinjiang, emphasizing that such misrepresentations are a distortion of the truth and are the result of the U.S. and Western "China policy." He expressed his hope to contribute more to the promotion of Xinjiang, helping more foreign friends to understand the real and beautiful Xinjiang.
